Vyšehrad is a historical area of the city connected to some of the oldest Czech legends and stories. Vyšehrad, which means Upper Castle, is located south of the Old Town, and is a lovely place for a walk dotted with history. I will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at your desired time, and we will head towards an area that is close to the historical city center, but not nearly as busy. We will visit the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, which is an outstanding example of Neo-Gothic architectural style. Next, we will walk around the National Cemetery, where some of the greatest Czech artists are buried. We will also stroll around the Vyšehrad gardens offering panoramic views over the city and the Vltava River. We will learn the legends of the area as we pass statues of the old Czech heroes.
On the way back to the city center, we will make two interesting stops. First we will pause to admire Cubist-style houses before a visit to Emmaus Monastery – a peaceful place where Gothic meets Baroque architecture. This church also reveals a story of one of the disasters of WWII.
There are extra entrance fees up to 250 CZK per person.
